Life, Death and One’s Responsibilities
Dr Santosh Kumar Mohapatra
Death is inevitable in life. Nobody can predict when the final moment of a person’s life will arrive. Whether rebirth exists or not remains an unanswered question even today. Therefore, if you love someone, express your love while they are alive. Give them the respect and affection they deserve during their lifetime. No matter how much you praise someone after their death, they will never know or experience that appreciation.
Often, when I go to bed at night or find myself alone, I remember people whom I knew and who have already departed from this world. Their memories come back to me.
Quite often, children do not care enough for their parents while they are alive, but after their death, they spend lakhs of rupees on elaborate funeral ceremonies and rituals. Similarly, making proper use of whatever talent, knowledge and abilities a person possesses is the responsibility of a good human being.
We should value people, recognise their contributions and utilise their talents while they are alive, rather than merely praising them after they are gone.
