The Decline of Values: A Crisis of Recognition

Society is gradually decaying not merely because ethical values are eroding, but because honesty, sincerity, integrity, and selfless work are too often ignored—or even penalized. While much attention is paid to punishing the guilty and the corrupt, far less importance is given to recognizing and encouraging those who consistently do good.
A healthy society is built not only by deterring wrongdoing but also by celebrating virtue. When honest people are neglected, discouraged, or sidelined, the moral foundation of society weakens. Appreciation for good work inspires others to follow the same path, whereas indifference breeds frustration and cynicism.
Regrettably, this tendency is increasingly visible even among progressive circles, where one would expect greater commitment to fairness, ethics, and the encouragement of merit. Failure to acknowledge sincere contributions while rewarding mediocrity or opportunism is a serious challenge that ultimately harms both institutions and society.
If we genuinely aspire to build a just, democratic, and progressive society, we must cultivate a culture that values integrity, recognizes dedication, and encourages those who work selflessly for the common good. Punishing the guilty is necessary, but honouring the honest is equally essential.
