The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 10,650 additional MBBS seats for the 2024–25 academic session, signalling a major boost to India’s medical education infrastructure.
With this approval, India now has around 1.37 lakh MBBS seats across 816 medical colleges, including 41 newly sanctioned institutions.
NMC Chairperson Dr. Abhijat Sheth stated that the move will also pave the way for nearly 5,000 new postgraduate seats, expanding the total PG capacity to nearly 67,000.
