Technology Can Assist, But Not Replace Thinking
Today, writing in English has become relatively easier because of the internet, technological support and the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI). With access to information at our fingertips, even a person without a formal background in economics can write on economic issues, provided they make proper use of available resources.
However, technology cannot substitute for one’s own analysis, views, perspective, ideas and independent thinking. Technology can provide information, assist in research and improve the presentation of an article, but the originality of thought, interpretation and the angle from which an issue is examined must come from the writer.
My own writing journey began in newspapers in February 2002. I started writing for Insurance Worker in September 2003 and became a regular contributor from 2006. At that time, the situation was completely different. There was no internet access or Artificial Intelligence to assist writers in the way they do today. We depended mainly on newspapers, books, journals and reports in hard copy. Research required time, patience and persistent effort.
Therefore, while technology has undoubtedly made writing and research easier, it has not made independent thinking unnecessary. Technology can support a writer, but it cannot become the writer’s mind.
