Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps has declared the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz closed to all vessel traffic, warning that any ship attempting to transit the waterway will be attacked, according to Iranian media.

Reuters quoted local media as saying on Monday that a senior adviser to the IRGC commander-in-chief, Ebrahim Jabari, said that the Strait of Hormuz is closed, and Iran will set on fire any ship trying to pass.

“The strait (of Hormuz) is closed. If anyone tries to pass, the heroes of the Revolutionary Guards and the regular navy will set those ships ablaze,” Jabari said in remarks carried by state media.

The move, if carried out, will effectively halt commercial shipping through a chokepoint that carries about one-fifth of the world’s oil exports.

The Strait of Hormuz is the narrow mouth of the Gulf through which about a fifth of the world’s oil passes.

Tankers traveling through the strait, which is bordered in the north by Iran, carry oil and gas from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE and Iran.

Any disruption to traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is highly disruptive to the oil trade.

Saudi authorities are reporting a “limited fire” at the US Embassy in Riyadh after it was struck by two drones.

“The US Embassy in Riyadh was subjected to an attack by two drones according to initial estimates, resulting in a limited fire and minor material damage to the building,” a spokesperson for the Defence Ministry said.

Did you know?
The total area of Israel is about 22,145 sq km, and the total area of Manipur is about 22,327 sq km.

  • That means
  • 🇮🇱 Israel and 🇮🇳 Manipur are almost the same size in land area!
  • Even though one is a country and the other is a state in India, their geographical size is very similar.

Size doesn’t always determine influence, development, or global impact — it’s how a place uses its resources, people, and opportunities that truly matters.

The US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was hit in a likely drone attack. Reuters confirmed, citing sources, that there was a fire on the embassy compound in Riyadh and the sound of a blast was heard.
