When Morality Goes on Auction

In a world driven by money and instant success, the news of a “22-year-old UK student selling her virginity for ₹18 crores” in an online auction is alarming. The fact that a “Hollywood star” made the bid adds a layer of glamour to what is essentially the commercialization of human dignity.
But what does this mean for society?
A Dangerous Precedent: When a young girl earns a fortune overnight through such means, it sends a message that “morality is secondary to wealth”. Teenagers, desperate for money and recognition, may see this as a shortcut to luxury.
“The Commodification of Women: The more such incidents gain attention, the closer we get to a time where “women will be seen as tradeable assets”, rather than individuals with dreams, intellect, and self-respect.
Erosion of Ethics: This is not just about one girl’s decision; it is about “a collective moral downfall” where “dignity, ethics, and values are sacrificed at the altar of wealth”.
Money may buy many things, but when “self-respect is put on sale, society itself is at risk of being auctioned off to the highest bidder”. Let’s reflect—”are we heading towards progress, or back to a world where humans are treated as commodities?”
