Ignoring Talent in Today’s Times

One of the most troubling features of the present system is the disregard for talent, quality, and efficiency, while loyalty and allegiance are given priority. In Indian cricket, for instance, there are easily twenty bowlers more capable in one-day matches than Prasidh Krishna.

His batting adds nothing, and despite repeated failures, he continues to be selected. In a recent game against South Africa, when the team’s average run rate was under four, he conceded 27 runs in just two overs. A team may occasionally scrape victories with mediocre players, but sustained success demands the best talent.

This neglect of merit is not confined to sports. It is rampant across every sphere of life, including progressive platforms. Those with knowledge, skill, and eloquence are often silenced, while individuals lacking such qualities are given the stage. The result is predictable: mediocrity triumphs, excellence is stifled, and progress stalls.
