Do Not Worry About What People Say; Focus on What Benefits Society

Dr Santosh Kumar Mohapatra

Whatever you do, people will have something to say. This is human nature. Some may appreciate your efforts, while others may criticise, discourage or even ridicule you.

Therefore, the real question is not what people will say about you, but whether what you are doing is good or bad, constructive or destructive, and beneficial or detrimental to society.

Whenever a person, , does something good for society, it is the responsibility of others to recognise, appreciate and popularise that contribution
. Good ideas, valuable messages and inspiring actions should not remain confined to a few individuals. They must reach a wider audience and inspire others to think and act positively.
Do not wait for others to recognise the value of your efforts or join you in your mission. If you have something meaningful to communicate, something that can enlighten people, promote social awareness or contribute to the common good, take it to the people.
Your responsibility does not end merely because others remain silent or indifferent.
Today, society faces serious challenges from the widespread circulation of obscene content, disinformation, misinformation, half-truths and divisive messages. Such content can distort public understanding, weaken critical thinking and damage social relationships. Those who spread harmful material may enjoy greater visibility, while people promoting constructive ideas may receive little attention or support.

But this should not discourage us. We cannot always prevent others from spreading harmful content, but we can counter its adverse effects by consistently disseminating truth, knowledge, reason, humanity and socially useful ideas.
Even if others do not support us, our efforts can help people distinguish between truth and falsehood, constructive criticism and malicious propaganda, and social progress and social destruction.

Silence in the face of harmful influences can allow them to grow, while the active dissemination of good ideas can help build a more informed and responsible society. Every meaningful message shared with sincerity has the potential to influence someone’s thinking, however small that influence may initially appear.

Ultimately, the test of our actions is not whether everyone approves of us, but whether we contribute to making society better, more enlightened and more humane.
