A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra has sought divorce from her husband just 40 days after their wedding, citing his severe lack of personal hygiene.

The woman, who approached the family counselling centre, alleged that her husband bathes only once or twice a month, resulting in unbearable body odor that makes cohabitation impossible.

According to India Today, the husband admitted to bathing only once or twice a month but claimed to sprinkle gangajal (holy water) on himself once a week to compensate.

The woman’s family has filed a dowry harassment complaint at a local police station and initiated divorce proceedings.

In a recent development, the husband, Rajesh, agreed to improve his hygiene and promised to bathe daily following a discussion with the police.

However, the woman remains firm in her decision to seek divorce, expressing her unwillingness to continue living with him.

The couple has been instructed to return to the family counselling centre on September 22 for further discussions.
