There are 1,087 functional toll plazas (user-fee plazas) managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) across the national highway network. These plazas cover approximately 45,000 km of road, with 457 new plazas added between 2020 and 2024 to support expanding infrastructure.

Most Expensive: The Bharthana toll plaza in Gujarat (NH48) is noted as the highest revenue earner.
Total Network: These tolls support a national highway network stretching over 1.5 lakh km.
Technology: Almost all, specifically over 750, of these plazas are equipped with FASTag for cashless, electronic toll collection.
Beyond the 1,087 NHAI plazas, inclusion of state highways and expressways brings the total number of toll points in India to over 3,000.
