Now flying in snowy conditions can be dangerous, and there have been several plane crashes due to ice and other weather conditions:
Embraer 500 Phenom 100
In 2021, an Embraer 500 Phenom 100 stalled due to ice contamination, causing the crew to lose control of the aircraft. The plane impacted the runway, collapsing the nose and main gear, which led to a fuel leak and fire.
American Eagle flight 4184
A buildup of ice caused a control anomaly called “aileron hinge moment reversal,” which sent the plane into an inverted dive.
South Korean plane crash
A Boeing aircraft experienced an electrical failure after air traffic control warned of a flock of birds. The aircraft stopped transmitting location data to air traffic control, and the pilots didn’t deploy their flaps or undercarriage for landing.
