Bhikari Bal(1929-2010) … A devotee of Lord Jagannath, Bal was popular for his dedication to Oriya sri Jagannatha Bhajan which brought him laurels from far and wide.
Bhikari Bal was born to Ramachandra Bal and Gellharani Devi in Sobala Village, kendrapara dist of Odisha. He was known as “Bhikari” (beggar) due to his parents’ superstition after other children in the family died. He later became a renowned Oriya devotional singer, also known as “Bhajan Samrat”. Bhikari Bal had a wife, two sons, and a daughter.
