Ganja known by many names like canabis, marijuana, hemp, bhang, charas etc. is a psychotropic substance, the plantation, production, possession and sales of which is regulated/banned by the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act.(penalty can be upto 20years imprisonment with fine).
Because of the suitable soil and climatic conditions, Ganja is found growing naturally plenty in North-eastern part of India. The products of Ganja was also transported commercially to other states making huge profits for the planters.
In India, some people smoke Ganja while worshiping shiva and for other religious purpose. Bhang is one such products popularly associated with ceremonies. Due to these reasons, the use of Ganja in small quantity is not banned altogether in some parts of India. Ganja/Ganja products is smoked /used for its effect of Euphoria. Ganja causes Hallucination, sedation and can also have other adverse mental and physical health problems if /when used frequently in large quantities.
Ganja has long history of use in Traditional Medicines and even now it is claimed Ganja is more effective while treating certain ailments.

      Considering all the medicinal and commercial benefits, some people opinioned plantation of Ganja should be legalised
