The story of Nala and Damayanti is a popular episode from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. It tells the story of a king, Nala, and his wife, Damayanti, who are separated after Nala loses his kingdom in a dice game and is exiled to the forest. Damayanti follows Nala into the forest, but he abandons her, and the two have many adventures before eventually reuniting and Nala regains his kingdom. 
Damayanti

A princess known for her chastity, Damayanti chooses Nala over four gods during a swayam-vara. She and Nala marry and have two children, but Nala is tempted to gamble with Kali, a personification of the iron age. Kali ruins Nala’s life, causing him to lose his kingdom and everything he owns. Damayanti tries to help Nala, but he remains under Kali’s influence. When Nala gambles away all his riches and lands, Damayanti urges his charioteer to take their twins to her family in Kundina.
Nala

Nala is the king of Nishadas who is building a city for his tribe. He thinks Damayanti is too above his position, and when Pushkara suggests staking Damayanti, Nala and Damayanti storm away from the kingdom into the forest.
Separation and reunion
In the forest, Nala and Damayanti get separated and have many adventures before finally reuniting after many years.
