Darshan Samikhya Bhubaneswar:
At a press conference held today, Senior Biju Janata Dal leader Dr. Lekhashree Samantsinghar along with her counsel Mr. Suman Kumar Rautaray informed about the decision to initiate a defamation suit in context of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Nilgiri MLA, Mr. Santosh Khatua’s obscene, vulgar, indecent, and derogatory remark against women in public, being a matter of grave concern neither the BJP nor the state Government has taken any action in this regard.
Senior General Secretary and Spokesperson of the BJD, Dr. Lekhashree Samantsinghar said, the objectionable and indecent remarks made by Nilgiri MLA Mr. Santosh Khatua about me, and the silence of the entire BJP and the state Government, reflects their mindset towards the women of Odisha. Such behavior has demoralized women and normalized the practice of character assassination of women within the BJP. Instead of taking action against Mr. Khatua, the BJP is projecting him as a poster boy, which is highly condemnable.
She further stated, our party has staged protests over this issue, lodged complaints at various police stations, and even approached the DGP, Odisha State Commission for Women, and the National Commission for Women, but no action has been taken in this matter. Therefore, I am now compelled to approach the court for justice. The obscene remarks made against me are not just personal but also a warning signal for every woman in Odisha. Women must remain vigilant against a party like the BJP, who practices use and throw policy for women.
If Mr. Santosh Khatua does not tender an unconditional public apology, I will file a civil defamation suit of Rs. 50 crores against him. This is not merely my personal fight; it is a battle for the dignity and self-respect of over two crore women of Odisha. No matter how much Mr. Khatua tries to hide behind the shield of power, the women of Odisha will never forgive him.
In this matter, her counsel, senior advocate Mr. Suman Kumar Rautaray, said, the remarks made by Mr. Khatua constitute a cognizable offence under law and have severely tarnished the image, social reputation and dignity of Dr. Samantsinghar. Such conduct from an elected representative is unacceptable in a civilized society and under the legal framework. We have already served him a legal notice, and if he fails to tender a public apology immediately, we will proceed with filing a civil defamation suit of Rs. 50 crores against him. We are determined to continue this fight till the justice is ensured.
