Another Development Initiative: Or Another Name for Destruction?

Development should mean progress, but what do we call it when progress demands the death of an entire ecosystem? In the name of another so-called “development initiative,” 1 lakh trees will be cut down. With them, a living world will vanish — a complete ecosystem, nurtured over decades, will be reduced to lifeless ground.

Thousands of species — birds, insects, reptiles, mammals, and even the silent yet essential fungi and microbes — will be destroyed in this process. What crime did they commit, except that they lived where we humans now want to build?

We are told to celebrate such projects as “growth,” as “nation-building.” But let us pause and ask: Is this truly a “Government for the People” initiative, or a government for profit and destruction?

The Nation wants to know:

  • How can we justify calling this development when it steals clean air, pure water, and fertile soil from future generations?
  • How can we applaud projects that extinguish the lungs of our planet in the name of convenience?
  • How can we sacrifice biodiversity — the greatest wealth of any nation — at the altar of short-sighted greed?

True development uplifts both people and planet. It builds without destroying. It balances economy with ecology. Anything else is not development — it is devastation dressed up in fancy words.

So let us ask again: Are we moving towards progress, or are we scripting our own destruction?
