CUET UG 2024 to be Conducted in Hybrid Mode with Reduced Subject Choices

Noida (Agency): The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2024, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the UGC, will witness significant changes this year. Scheduled to be held between May 15 and 31, the examination will be conducted in a hybrid mode, allowing candidates, particularly those from rural areas, to take the exam closer to their homes.

According to senior officials in NTA and UGC, registration for CUET UG 2024 is expected to commence around February 19. The decision to shift to a hybrid mode aims to facilitate candidates’ access to examination centers, especially for those residing in rural areas, thus reducing the need to travel long distances.

UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar highlighted that the exam format will see alterations based on the number of registrations per subject. For subjects with higher registrations, the test will be conducted using OMR sheets instead of the Computer Based Test (CBT) format. This approach will enable the exam to be conducted on a single day and in one shift for all candidates across the country, utilizing various schools, colleges, and educational institutes as examination centers.

The move towards a hybrid format aims to streamline the examination process and reduce the number of exam days. Additionally, the number of subject choices available to candidates will be reduced from 10 to six. This decision is based on data analysis by NTA, which revealed that many students were not opting for all 10 subject options, leading to technical challenges in allotting exam centers.

NTA is also focusing on maintaining a moderate difficulty level for CUET UG 2024 to alleviate stress among students. Kumar emphasized the importance of ensuring a fair and accessible examination process for all candidates, especially during these challenging times.

With these changes, CUET UG 2024 seeks to provide a more efficient and student-friendly approach to higher education entrance examinations in India.
