Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the power department to install individual prepaid meters in all government quarters, including residences in the ministerial colony, after realizing that a nominal amount was being deducted from the salaries of ministers and senior officers in an effort to pay the monthly power bill.

According to CM Sarma, the action was taken to make sure that no ministers, officers, or government workers benefited from discounted power.

During the January 12 Assam state cabinet meeting, the state’s government made a significant decision to accelerate the installation of smart prepayment meters.
