Myanmar’s military regime has implemented mandatory military duty for young men and women, according to state media reports on Saturday.
The action comes amid the junta’s war with armed rebel forces seeking more autonomy in several parts of the nation.
Males aged 18-35 and women aged 18-27 are expected to serve for a maximum of two years.
Doctors and other specialists under the age of 45 are required to serve for three years. During the present state of emergency, the service duration may be prolonged for up to five years.
